Ham Radio License Training Resources

Training Classes
Anyone interested in earning an entry level Technician class (Level 1), or a General class (Level 2) Amateur Radio license is invited to attend training classes that are periodically presented by volunteers from Clallam County Amateur Radio Club. Details are usually posted on the CCARC Website linked on the left menu.

The students must purchase an American Radio Relay League “Ham Radio License Manual Level I or The ARRL General Class License Manual at a cost of $32.95. These books are available from the ARRL as well as from Amazon.

Testing Sessions
During the testing sessions, all levels of Amateur Radio licenses tests will be administered (Technician, General, and Extra.) Each test costs $15.00 for FCC Processing. The test questions are based on the ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League) study guides which contain absolutely everything you need to know to take the FCC license exams. The manuals contain all of the actual questions that will appear on the tests.

All persons testing must satisfy these requirements:

  1. You must supply the examiners with either a Social Security Number (SSN) or an FCC issued Federal Registration Number (FRN). You are encouraged to apply for an FRN prior to the test session if you do not have one. NOTE that you do not need an amateur license to apply.
  2. You must bring a legal photo ID.
  3. If you are upgrading a current Amateur License, you must bring a photocopy of your current license that you will turn in to the examiners.

Additional Resources
If the CCARC class and testing schedule does not work for you, there are training resources available on the Internet, just search for "Ham Radio License Training" or go to the ARRL website "Finding a Class."

Many self-study resources are available at hamstudy.org

Dave Casler, KE0OG has a series of really great license training videos:
